In this Excel sheet, wind load calculations are presented for the IBN SINA Pharmaceutical project under Exposure Category A as per the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC). The sheet accepts wind speed, building geometry, and pressure coefficients to calculate wind pressures on structural elements in accordance with BNBC requirements.

About the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) Wind Provisions

The BNBC governs structural design in Bangladesh and provides wind load provisions based on the country’s geographic wind speed zonation. Bangladesh is situated in a region subject to tropical cyclones and severe monsoon winds, particularly in coastal and southern zones. The BNBC classifies the country into wind speed zones and defines terrain categories (A through D) that reflect surface roughness.

Exposure Category A in BNBC corresponds to large city centres with closely spaced tall buildings — terrain where the atmospheric boundary layer is thick and wind speeds near the ground are substantially reduced.

Project Context: IBN SINA Pharmaceutical

This sheet was prepared for an actual industrial/pharmaceutical building project, making it a practical real-world example of BNBC wind load calculation. Pharmaceutical facilities often require special attention to structural integrity and building envelope performance, as production environments demand airtight enclosures and pressure-controlled spaces.
